its all about ME, anyway
Thos Chapman
Born
and raised in Berkeley, California, I came of age in the time when disco was
king, so naturally I escaped to a tiny rural mountain college, where a few
years passed and I earned a lovely little degree in drama and music (and wildlife
biology, too, but let's not stray). Returning from the mountains, I sought
out roles for my academically-polished talent. Finding that actual employment
as a thespian was unlikely in the extreme (and being unwilling to move to
sunny Lozangeles), I fell back into the Art World. In college, I routinely
produced, by hand, nearly all the display graphics for much of the college
(this being the legendary Time Before Computers - ask your parents). Virtually
a lost art now, hand illustration and lettering used to be the norm. I still
do it that way, from time to time, just to keep in practice. I began using
computers to assist me in my art in 1984, when the midi music company (Zeta)
I worked for in Berkeley acquired a then-brand-new Macintosh 512k, and dubbed
me "Graphic Designer." I've been gripped by the Art World ever since,
though I still dream of the Silver Screen...
Anyway, things moved along higgledy-piggledy for the next bunch of years,
making music posters, newspapers, flyers, brochures, catalogs, websites -
as well as all sorts of other career paths, including puppeteering, animation, voice-overs, etc. I've
held pretty much every artistic job title you can have - from Assistant Production
Artist right through Creative Director - and everything in between. I completed
a year-long course at the now-defunct Center for Electronic Art in San Francisco, and
received a Certificate of Animation in July, 2002. I have a 10-year-old daughter and a 22-year-old son. I sing and play guitar - sort of a new-age bluesy torch singer...
I live in Marin County, California, and am available for consultation, creation, production, and/or design...
